Happy Spring! 

The Inland Empire Children's Book Project (IECBP) is a 100% volunteer, nonprofit organization with a simple mission of getting books into the hands of children who need them. Since opening our doors in 2015, we have distributed nearly 200,000 new and gently-used books. When books and teacher supplies are donated, IECBP volunteers clean and sort them by grade and subject (chapter books, early readers, informational books, etc). Books that are inappropriate for children are donated to organizations that serve adults. 

Before the COVID-19 lockdowns, teachers were invited to "shop" at our Book Site located at Jones Elementary School on Monday and Thursday afternoons. At the time, we used two classrooms which allowed plenty of space to display books by grade and genre. Teachers at each school in the SBCUSD were invited twice a year to visit and choose one book for each of their students to take home and keep. Like everything else, the IECBP closed during the COVID-19 lockdowns. 

In the summer of 2021, we were relocated to a single classroom at Lincoln Elementary School, so our model for book distribution is changing. This is where you come in. We have created a quick 6-question text survey to learn how we can best serve teachers and students. Please text IECBP to 909-280-7931 to take the survey and opt-in for our updates. This is the last week of book distribution for the 2015-16 academic year by the Inland Empire Children's Book Project and we are so grateful for everyone who helped us to provide more than 26,000 books since we opened our doors in 2015. We will be sending out a newsletter soon recognizing our supporters and we would love to include you. 

With summer upon us, we are in need of books. August will be here before we know it and we need thousands of books on our shelves to meet the needs of San Bernardino City Unified Schools. There are two ways you can help to get books in the hands of San Bernardino students:

1) Donate books for children. We especially need chapter books for 3rd - 6th graders, and fiction for middle and high school students. We will pick them up from your location (some restrictions may apply).

2) Donate cash to allow IECBP to purchase discounted books from First Book. Every dollar counts. Children's books range in price from $1.50 to $7.00 each. Books are distributed to entire classrooms so that each child in the class receives a book at the same time. Please click HERE to make a tax-deductible donation ​

Inland Empire Children's Book Project is a 100% volunteer 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of providing books at no cost to organizations serving children in need. Through partnerships like with the San Bernardino City Unified School District, we are able to fulfill our mission with very low overhead. 

The seventh annual Latino Education and Advocacy Days (LEAD) Summit is being held in the Santos Manuel Student Union Event Center at California State University, San Bernardino on Wednesday, March 30th starting at 8:00 am. The theme of this year's event is "Black Brown Indigenous Unity" and speakers include former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, as well as leaders in education and government from California and beyond.

Summit organizers are asking guests to bring a new or gently-used children's book, in English or Spanish, which will be given to the Inland Empire Children's Book Project.

We are in need of teen and young adult fiction. Got an old copy of Harry Potter or The Hunger Games sitting around? How about Fahrenheit 451 or Pride and Prejudice?  We are happy to pick books up at your location, provide \ the supplies you need for a book drive in your office or neighborhood, and provide a receipt for your tax-deductible donation. We are so excited to kick off this school year. Each SBCUSD teacher should have received a note from the district inviting them to visit IECBP on specific dates. We will also be emailing invitations to the teachers on our list (ones who have visited before) with the dates the teachers at their school are welcome to attend. In the first week (8/18 & 8/20) we will be hosting teachers from Arrowview Middle and Riley, Barton, Highland-Pacific, Monterey and Hunt elementary schools. 

We will keep this invitation-only schedule throughout our start-up phase. We are constantly cultivating new sources of books and once our supply is large enough, we will open our doors to other districts and nonprofit organizations.
